Maryam Awaisu is the author of Burning Bright, which was shortlisted for the NLNG Literature Prize, 2016. She lives and works in Kaduna, where she also supports the Sickle Cell Patient Health Promotion Center and Relieve a Burden foundation for orphans, and volunteers by teaching English to public school kids on Sundays.
A staunch feminist, she is an advocate for gender equality, prevention of sickle cell anemia, and social justice.
Black is her favorite color, she loves food, dances for leisure, and hopes to change her genotype in the nearest future. Silky, Grim and Myrtle are her three pet rocks.
