Born on 5 February 1956, in Kano, Auwalu Anwar obtained his Bachelor’s degree (in History/Political Science) from Bayero University, Kano, in 1983.

He was awarded M. A. and Ph. D. (in Social and Intellectual History) by the Department of History, University of Maiduguri, in 1989 and 1997 respectively. He also worked in the Department, 1984-1997. He was Political Adviser to the Speaker, House of Representatives, 2000-3.

He was Special Assistant to the President, but posted to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), where he served as Secretary for: Education; Agriculture and Rural Development; Health and Human Services, 2004-7. Anwar is a novelist, a poet, and a translator. His publications included: Jumhuriyyar Gurguzu Ta Bulgaria (translation), 1982; Tasirin Siyasa A Addini: Tijjanawa Da Tirjanawa A Kano, 1937-1991, 1992; Gadar Zare, Wakoki, 2007; Gyara Kayanka, 2009; and Batulu, 2013. Anwar is the CEO, Stronglink Consultants Ltd.
