Multiple award winner and author, Zaynab Alkali was honored with the title of
icon of Hope (2000) by President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government, and received the Nigerian Woman of Distinction award on the occasion of Nigeria’s golden jubilee, by President Goodluck. The Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako gave her the Woman of Substance Merit Award. Her books have been translated into several languages, i.e. German, French, Arabic and Spanish, winning over 40 awards by the year 2018. The books authored are; The Stillborn, The Virtuous Woman, Cobwebs and Other Stories, The Descendants and The Initiates. Born in Adamawa State to parents of Borno and Adamawa States in the early ‘50’s, Zaynab, maiden surname, Turah-Mazila, attended Queen Elizabeth
Secondary School, Ilorin in the mid-late sixties, ABU/ ABC, Zaria for her 1 st and
2 nd degrees, and Bayero University Kano, where she studied English to a doctorate level. She took up an appointment with the University of Maiduguri for 22years, after which she joined the Civil Service as a Deputy Director, (NPHCDA) Abuja. Four years later, she moved to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as a full Professor of English in 2004. She was Dean Faculty of Arts, and Dean School of Post- Graduate Studies. In 2005-2009 she served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin), briefly, acting as a Vice Chancellor in 2006. 2015-2016, Director, Gender Studies.

She is listed as a British author with her first book The Stillborn, first published in the UK. A Fellow of the British Council, UK, and Stiftung Kulfursfond, Germany, Zaynab was conferred with a Chieftaincy title, Magiran Garkida (The Queen), by her Community. Her latest book which includes The invisible borders.

She has seven grand children and six children, Dr. Yashua Alkali- Hamza, a medical doctor, Dr. Fatima Baaram Alkali, a lawyer and the author of Personal Angle, Baba Nur Alkali, a historian, Hajiya Habiba Alkali, a Civil Servant, author
of Phantom Army, Amina Nur Alkali, a lawyer, co-authored Secret of Silence, (poems) and finally Abdulhamid Alkali, a civil engineer, his first work Contentment is about to go to Press. Their father, a Professor of History,
Muhammad Nur Alkali transited August 2014.

Zaynab lives in Keffi. Among other public commitments, she supervises her school and her farms.
