Richard Young is the European Union Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS.  He is an economist by training, having worked in UK government before joining the European Union at the time of the launch of the EU’s Single Market in 1992.  He has over 25 years experience in the external service of the European Union and worked in Mozambique, Ethiopia, Senegal, South Africa, and now Nigeria.  His work has in the past included offering specialist economic advice on privatisation, infrastructure investment, and macroeconomic support.  Today as part of the EU team in Nigeria he works on political, economic, security, development, and humanitarian cooperation as key parts of the EU’s external relations.  He enjoys reading, and buying books, and looks forward to the day when he will be able to read them all..
